How can we use technology to make our approach, which encourages having confidence in moving more, accessible and engaging for our target audience?
RESEARCH
I conducted in-depth design research to determine the most effective and empathetic approach to discussing the sensitive topic of obesity. I explored a range of websites, including Noom and It's Bigger Than Me, which provided valuable insights into creating a supportive and respectful dialogue.Noom’s approach focuses on a blend of educational content with a supportive, motivational tone, creating an encouraging environment for users. It's Bigger Than Me, on the other hand, emphasizes inclusivity and community support, addressing obesity with sensitivity and respect. These insights helped shape a design strategy that prioritizes empathy and empowerment, ensuring a thoughtful and constructive dialogue around the topic of obesity.

LIFELINE
BRANDING, GRAPHIC DESIGN, & ILLUSTRATION
LIFELINE is a solo branding project designed to capture the raw, introspective spirit of a fictional emo rock band. With deep roots in the sounds and themes of the 2010s emo revival, LIFELINE’s branding is crafted to resonate with audiences in the alternative and emo communities. This brand identity weaves together gritty textures, dark tones, and haunting typography to embody the angst and vulnerability that characterizes the band’s music. The project began with the creation of a distinctive logotype, centered around a skeletal hand forming an "L," a striking and memorable symbol that captures the band’s name and ethos. The rest of the band’s name is rendered in Spinebiting, a sharp, knife-like typeface that evokes a sense of danger and intensity. This skeletal motif continues in the album art for their debut release, No One Picked Up, which reflects the album's themes of isolation and the desire for connection. As the sole designer, I took on all aspects of LIFELINE's brand creation, applying my skills in illustration, typography, and graphic design to craft visuals that immerse the viewer in the band's aesthetic world. Through dark visuals and grunge-inspired graphics, I aimed to create an identity that both intrigues and unsettles, capturing the emotional weight and rebellious energy of LIFELINE's music

HOLO'S TABLE
EXPERIENCE DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN, & PRODUCT DESIGN
For this project, our objective was to conceptualize a product that pushed the boundaries of innovation. The open-ended nature of the assignment encouraged us to explore future possibilities without limitation. Inspired by my passion for tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) like Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), and leveraging my design expertise, I developed Holo’s Table—a concept that merges tradition with futuristic technology.D&D players invest a tremendous amount of time and energy into creating immersive game experiences. With that in mind, I envisioned a product that would enhance their gameplay. Holo’s Table is designed as an advanced gaming surface capable of projecting holographic maps, dynamic dungeons, and live-action battles, all in real-time. Additionally, I developed user interfaces tailored for both players and game masters, ensuring that the product would deliver an interactive and fully immersive experience. The name Holo’s Table is a nod to the iconic D&D character Volo, known for his literary contributions to the game's universe.Through this project, I aimed to elevate the TTRPG hobby to new heights, creating a design that honors the community’s dedication while imagining what the future of gaming could be.

The creation of Holo’s Table demanded a high level of creativity and problem-solving. While designing a product to enhance the tabletop role-playing experience, I encountered several challenges. Despite consulting with numerous TTRPG players for insights, I struggled to design the vast array of assets and interfaces that a game as flexible as Dungeons & Dragons requires. The open-ended nature of these games—allowing limitless possibilities in storytelling and campaign dynamics—made it difficult to narrow down the core features for my final design.Despite these hurdles, Holo’s Table has taken shape, offering an impressive set of features aimed at enhancing the gaming experience for both players and game masters. Key features include a comprehensive character creation interface, accessible to all users, allowing for the creation of heroes, NPCs, or adversaries. The map customization options enable game masters to craft personalized campaign settings, ensuring each adventure feels unique. Additionally, the game master’s interface integrates ambient music options, adding an extra layer of immersion to gameplay.

Messina Sans
GRAPHIC DESIGN, TYPE DESIGN, & PRINT DESIGN
For this project, I developed a type specimen book featuring Messina Sans, designed to explore the font’s history and demonstrate its versatility. Drawing inspiration from the striking visual style of Neon Genesis Evangelion, I sought to infuse the book with the show’s bold typography and brutalist aesthetic. The goal was to create a compelling visual narrative that not only highlighted the historical context of Messina Sans but also demonstrated its functionality through real-world design applications. The final product consists of over 18 pages, each blending the essence of Evangelion’s retro visual storytelling with the structure of Messina Sans. I incorporated three use-case samples to showcase the font’s adaptability, presenting it in various contexts that reflect its unique design qualities.

Initially, I anticipated a straightforward process for this assignment, but I soon found myself challenged by the task of designing a compelling type specimen book. The early stages of conceptualizing the layout were more complex than expected. Through iterative feedback from peers and professors, I refined my approach and developed a final product I’m proud of.The project centered on Messina Sans, a versatile typeface created by Luzi Gantenbein and published by Luzi Type in 2015. Designed with Serif, Sans, and Modern styles, Messina Sans reflects the 20th-century International Style with its clean lines and minimalist aesthetics, emphasizing simplicity, functionality, and clarity.Throughout the design process, I repeatedly asked, "How can I highlight the unique qualities of this font?" To address this, I crafted a type specimen book that not only showcases Messina Sans’s distinctive characteristics but also integrates subtle influences from Neon Genesis Evangelion. This combination aimed to present the font’s elegance while adding an engaging layer of thematic depth.

SCRAPPED PAGES
Here are several pages that either didn't make the final cut or were revised heavily before final print. Many of these were experimental and my goal was to showcase movement and artistic design rather than highlighting the typeface's characteristics. After reevaluating my priorities, I decided to scrap many of these in order to create the best version of my project.

ICONS
ALTERNATE COLOR CONCEPTS
When crafting the welcome page for The Digital Garden, I had to consider the desired aesthetic while also maintaining optimal color contrast. While the initial palettes aligned with my vision, I recognized that several colors were too alike or lacked sufficient contrast, potentially compromising accessibility. After some adjustments, I achieved a fair balance between aesthetics and accessibility by adding dark greens.

Developing HAPTO, we had a very specific goal in mind: Create a practical yet elegant solution for those with hearing impairments. Although hearing aids and other hearing enhancement products exist, nothing doubled as both a fashionable and practical accessory. We also wanted to create a product that could be interchangeable depending on your wants and needs. A product that is simple, but when desired, a statement piece. With research, we learned that there is a market for this kind of product and that it doesn’t exist (to this caliber), elsewhere. HAPTO utilizes miniature vibration motors and actuators to generate tactile sensations upon activation. These components are electronically regulated to deliver a range of vibration types and strengths, enabling wearers to feel distinct sensations. Additionally, the halo features sensors and communication modules that interface with a companion app, enabling it to receive signals from paired devices and deliver notifications or alerts through haptic feedback.

A Clockwork Orange
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Designing the movie poster for A Clockwork Orange was an unconventional and challenging project. The film's peculiar and unsettling themes inspired me to create a design that captures its distinctive essence.Throughout the process, I sought to develop a poster that was both original and avant-garde, distinguishing it from the many existing designs. The final result, which received mixed reactions from my peers—some even found it unsettling—perfectly mirrored the film’s unique tone and earned me an award. This project allowed me to embrace the film’s eccentricity and push creative boundaries, delivering a design that is as distinctive as the movie itself.

EARLY CONCEPTS
After watching the movie, I came up with some quick sketches on my phone. The intentional quickness of my lines and not so defined features helped with my actual designs later. I left these sketches sit a few days in my phone before finally realizing them, that way, I could hope to replicate the bizarre and unsure emotions I felt while watching A Clockwork Orange.

ALTERNATE POSTER
This poster design for A Clockwork Orange holds a special place in my portfolio, even though it wasn't entered into any competition. This design draws inspiration from the distinctive aesthetics and atmosphere of the film's milk bar.
